Our Toddler Program at Far Horizons Montessori School

The absorbent mind of the young child is capable of learning much more than most parents think is possible. Your toddler is eager to explore his world, exert his independence and verbally express himself.  In our Montessori toddler classroom, we have created a carefully prepared environment that encourages independence, self discovery and an interest in learning.  Practical life skills, sensorial activities, literature, language enrichment, music, dance and art form the core of our toddler program. Come see for yourself. Art

Art is a living part of our Montessori classroom. Our children learn to work independently with cutting, pasting, drawing, stenciling, coloring, painting, and in working with clay. Additionally they are exposed to great works of art through art cards and small artist board books such as Dancing with Degas, and Picnic with Monet. The beautiful colors and designs in our art cards and board books entice eager little hands into activity; and present an opportunity to share language and conversation.

Music

At Far Horizons Montessori School, we believe in the old proverb: If you can walk, you can dance. If you can talk, you can sing. A child’s musical taste is developed early in life so we provide an environment rich in beautiful music and musical experiences. We sing and dance with bean bags, Lummi sticks, colored boas, and rhythm instruments. We sing nursery rhymes, silly songs, finger plays, and some familiar stories set to music. We also enjoy listening to classical music throughout our day. We find that listening to classical music relaxes our bodies and stimulates our minds.Musical activities in the classroom add JOY, EXCITEMENT, and FUN! They assist the children in their development of language and coordinated movement; and encourage cooperation, listening and a growing ability to follow directions.
