We had just 12 school days between our Thanksgiving holidays and our winter break. There wasn’t much time, but we had lots of seasonal fun to squeeze in. Our kids created cookie/candy necklaces, decorated individual gingerbread houses, and went on a field trip to see the Nutcracker ballet. We also had a Pajama Day in which guest readers read holiday stories to our children before everyone shared a treat of hot chocolate, marshmallows, and cookies. The kids made their parents holiday gifts and practiced for their winter shows.
The winter shows were the highlight of our holiday activities, for there is something very magical about children’s performances. Excitement filled the room as our youngsters paraded into their classroom dressed in theatrical costumes and whimsical hairdos. Nothing short of magic could so mysteriously transform their classroom into a theater filled with elaborate props and an eager audience seated before them. The children’s performances were enchanting, and once again our little stars shined!
